#BlackGirlhood: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools

  • 190 Rockefeller Hall

Professor Rogers will share work-in-progress excerpts from her short film #BlackGirlhood. The film explores the criminalization of Black girls in the classroom, as we watch three girls struggle to navigate authority and policing. She will present research that was pivotal in the writing of the film and contextualize that research by discussing her time both in classrooms across the Los Angeles Unified School District, as well as from her seminar course "Viewing Black Girlhood" for the Society for the Humanities.
