Rising Star, Dr. Yvon Woappi's scientific seminar, "Defining the cellular orchestration of regenerative tissue plasticity"

PACE is excited to announce that Rising Star, Dr. Yvon Woappi, will virtually present his scientific seminar, “Defining the cellular orchestration of regenerative tissue plasticity” on Thursday, August 5, 12:00pm - 1:00pm. If you would like to attend, please RSVP Valerie at pace@cornell.edu for the Zoom link.

Dr. Yvon Woappi is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Harvard Dermatology Research Training Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in Biology. He then went to pursue a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. There, he developed a 3D cell culture system to study the relationship between epithelial regeneration and virus-induced neoplasia. Currently, his postdoctoral work utilizes in vivo gene editing systems to understand the contribution of epithelial cell lineages in tissue regeneration and cancer. In the future, he hopes to lead an independent research program exploring the genomic modulators of epithelial tissue renewal and carcinomas. Toward this aim, he will be applying for tenure-track faculty positions in the spring/summer of 2021.

The Program for Achieving Career Excellence (PACE), led by Dr. Cindy Leifer and Dr. Hector Aguilar-Carreno supports early-career faculty through professional development and mentoring programming.

The Cornell Rising Stars Program is a component of PACE, and specifically focuses on promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives in biomedical research by providing professional development and tailored mentoring to post-doctoral fellows from historically underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds. Rising Stars get the opportunities to network with Cornell faculty, give a scientific seminar and chalk talk, and receive early career alerts for faculty positions.
