Associate Professor of Anthropology, Bruce Whitehouse joined the faculty at Lehigh in 2008 after obtaining his Ph.D. in Anthropology from Brown University in 2007. Whitehouse's areas of interest in research include transnational migration; Islam; identity and locality; globalization; population processes; marriage; domestic structure and households; states in Africa; entrepreneurs; the western Sahel; the Congo Basin; and Nigeria. He has conducted ethnographic fieldwork in Mali, Nigeria, and the Republic of Congo. His teaching areas include: Globalization; transnationalism; migration; modernization and development; anthropology of Africa; anthropology of Muslim societies; demographic anthropology; medical anthropology; political economy; postcolonialism and state power; ethnicity and identity formation.
